The JMA / Japan Meteorological Agency reported that a small explosive activity marked the Sakurajima around 3am on August 19, accompanied by a plume that rose to 500 meters above the Showa crater. This is the first eruption after the raising of alert to level 4.

Tremor and nocturnal glow, linked to the high-temperature of the volcanic gas, were collected one hour before the eruption.

This type of small eruption is not common for Sakurajima, whose crater is closed by a lava dome in "pancake". This cap might make a future more brutal and explosive eruption.

Volcanic gases begin to emerge from the seabed ... gas bubbles are observed in the port of Futatsumata, 5 km distant from the crater and located north of the isthmus linking the volcano in Kagoshima Bay.

Inflation, that marks the area of crater Minadake (southeast side of Sakurajima), has been detected by InSAR interferometry, and the crust displacement measured at a max. 16 cm. between January 4 and 16 August (32 weeks) and 6 cm maximum between 6 July and 17 August (6 weeks) (Alos-2 satellite data by Jaxa / Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency)

Barren Island / Andaman Islands - India:

An estimated plume 1,500 meters height, drifting 50 km to the east, is reported on 19.08 to this island-volcano, located away from the Andaman archipelago. This new phase of activity corresponds to a moderate hotspot viewed from mid-August by satellites.

In Sinabung / Sumatra, three explosions generated small plumes this August 19. The Southeast dome remains threatening.

The SERNAGEOMIN / OVDAS points 37 volcano tectonic earthquakes, associated with the fracturing of rock, at 4,410 meters beneath the volcano Copahue / Chile and about 12 km NNE of the main crater ; the strongest earthquake, product at 3:11 local, is of magnitude 2.0. There is no noticeable changes in the surface activity, and the alert is maintained in Amarillo.

Its last eruption dates from the second half of 2014. (GVP)
