The PHIVOLCS recounts a minor phreatic eruption at Kanlaon Volcano (Canlaon or Kanla-on) on the Philippine island of Negros; she started at 9:55 p.m. on November 23 and end at 10:03 p.m.. The ash plume has reached 1,500 meters above the summit. Rumblings were heard in various cities of the province of Negros Oriental.

The alert level rose to 1 / abnormal conditions and instability, accompanied by a PDZ / Permanent Danger Zone not accessible of 4 km radius.

The activity of the volcano, listed since 1866, typically consists of explosive eruptions of phreatic type producing close ashfall. The last eruption of this volcano little mediatized, according to GVP, dates between June 3 and July 25, 2006.

This andesitic stratovolcano rises to 2435 meters and is dotted with pyroclastic cones and craters, under the control of a crack; most of these structures are filled by lakes. The summit of  Kanlaon contains an elongated caldera north, 2 km wide, which houses a crater lake, and a small vent, active historically, the Lugud crater, south side.

Different legends exist for this volcano : The most familiar is that of the supreme god Kan Laon. A fearsome dragon has appeared on the mountain, and caused havoc on the island. To appease him, the inhabitants offered him in sacrifice a beautiful girl. When the last "girl without blemish" was the daughter of the King, this one offered a reward to anyone who kills the dragon. A prince named Laon, known for its ability to interact with the animals, approached it and killed him. The king gave him the hand of his daughter, and the people called the mountain the name of the prince, Kan Laon, "the one exhales."

The Kanlaon retains a mystique side that attracts healers, which goes each year to the volcano in tribute to the spirit of Kan Laon, renew their power and gather medicinal plants in forests dressing the flanks of the volcano.
