Nevado del Ruiz - La Laguna Verde Nereidas newly formed to the right, and to the left, the cone La Olleta blackened by ash deposits. - Doc. Observatorio Vulcanológico & Sismológico Manizales
Following the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz in recent months, a new glacial lake formed on the western flank of the volcano, 1.5 km from the Arenas crater and an altitude of 5,100 meters, in the bottom area of the glacier Nereidas. It was discovered during a survey on November 19, by the Colombian Geological Services with the support from the US Bureau of assistance to disasters, USAID / OFDA.
Its origin is related to the melting of the ice cap, and its green color to the precipitation of sulfur at the bottom of it. This lake forms the highest laguna of this type in Colombia.
The images clearly show the ash deposits in The Olleta cone, associated with the activity of the Nevado del Ruiz during this year

The level of Gunung Awu, located in the District of Sangihe, North Sulawesi, was raised on November 24 at 8:18 p.m. to 2 / alert, accompanied by a non recommended access area of 3 km around the crater.
Various factors influence this decision: high H2S concentrations, in excess of 60ppm, are observed since late July; seismicity is increasing, with many shallow volcanic earthquakes. Their number increased from 4 to 74 daily episodes on November 24 to 19h. The lava dome, formed in 2004 in place of the summit crater lake of the stratovolcano, has strong fumaroles.
His episodic historical volcanic activity is considered as important and deadly, like in 1966, when 39 people were killed when pyroclastic flows. The GVP recognizes a total of 8,000 victims during his historic activity, due to pyroclastic flows and lahars.
