In Chile, the Nevados de Chillan complex, in amarillo alert, presented at 5:56 p.m. local Jan. 8 (8:56 p.m. GMT) a short-term ash emission, associated with an LP earthquake, with a magnitude of 2.9, in relation to fluid dynamics inside the volcano.

The SERNAGEOMIN consider this new issue of ash as being related to the hydrothermal system destabilization process, following a heat transfer rising magma body underneath. Access is restricted to one km around the crater of the Southern Cone and areas of active fumaroles, because of the danger of an eruption of phreatic type.
