A powerful eruption of gas, ash and incandescent material took place on May 12 at 1:18 local to Turrialba / Costa Rica; It lasted about 11 minutes.
A block rain fell near the active crater, and by the end of the phase, the collapse of the eruption column generated a "pyroclastic wave" to the central crater (RSN - Dr. M.Mora)
Prevailing winds have led the ashes to a western sector. Significant ash falls were reported in the Central Valley, in remote locations, including Coronado, Ipis, San Pedro Montes de Oca, San Isidro Heredia, San Pablo Heredia, Tibás, Pavas, Uruca, Sabana Norte, Santa Ana, Alajuela.
The Turrialba then regained relative calm, characterized by low seismicity and low outgassing.
