The KVERT placed the volcano Chikurachki, in the Kuril archipelago, on orange aviation alert the July 17, following an explosive eruption accompanied by an ash plume rising to 4-5,000 meters asl.
The plume, and its extension of about 212 km to the northeast, were followed by the satellite Himawari 8 : he began to be viewed around 3:20 UTC, then moved to the northeast, reached the coast of the southern tip of the Kamchatka to 6:20 UTC. At 7h40 UTC, he had exceeded the tip of the Kamchatka towards the Pacific.
