An increase in seismic activity of Popocatépetl on July 31 from 6:50 p.m. accompanied the start of strombolian activity. The heavy cloud cover did not allow a direct observation before 10:40 p.m., where one can observe a continuous emission of gas, steam and ash scattering towards the WNW; this emission is interrupted by explosions and expulsion of incandescent fragments that fall on the flanks east and northeast to 1,000 meters from the crater.
The alert level remains unchanged at Amarillo Fase 2; are reminded not to access the volcano because of these falls of bombs.
