Pagan is a volcanic island, consists of two stratovolcanoes connected by an isthmus, and located in the Mariana Islands. Each stratovolcano is build in a caldera, respectively 4 km diameter for the south caldera, and 7 km wide caldera for the north caldera. All eruptions from the 17th century are coming from northern volcano. The most important took place in 1981 and forced 300 residents to evacuate the island.

Azure waters form rollers before spreading on the volcanic sand of a beach perfect shaped in iron horse; further, the cliffs plunge directly into the ocean ... The tranquility of this paradise could be forever marred by the heavy artillery sounds of a simulated theater of war, which will end the hopes to return for the displaced people and installation of tourist infrastructure.

This occupation by the army of the United States could lead to the destruction of the ancestral culture old of thousands of years, and threaten the wildlife.

More than 8,000 marines are to be transferred from Okinawa as part of a controversial agreement between Tokyo and Washington to reduce the US military footprint on the southern Japan island.
