The AVO detected a gradual increase in activity at Bogoslof on January 17, starting at 13:22 UTC and continuing until an increase of the tremor at 14:48 UTC.
Minor explosions were observed around 3:00 pm and 4:40 pm UTC, before a decline in seismicity.
The ash cloud has risen to a maximum of 4,500-4600 meters and the aviation code remains at Orange.

In Mexico, a strong explosion shook the Colima on January 18 at 0:27, projecting incandescent fragments on all sides of the volcano, and accompanied by a plume rising to more than 4,000 meters.
Falls of ash are reported in the northern area of Comala.
