The Ambae authorities have ordered the evacuation of more than 8,000 people, more than 2/3 of the population, due to the increase of the volcanic activity.

Increased ash production pushes the evacuees to the east coast and nearby islands.
According to an unassigned photo, a fountain of lava animates the vent of the Manaro Voui.
The Council of Ministers declared a state of emergency for Ambae, to allow the use of public funds to meet alert level level 4 (out of 5).
During the last eruption in 2005, the evacuees could reintegrate their villages until after three months.
