After ash emissions since March 1, the explosive eruption of Shinmoedake March 6 around 14:30 sent a plume of ash and gas to more than 3,000 meters.
Lava was emitted into the crater, and besides the projections, an effusion generated a galette dome, which covered the 2011 dome and is visible on the images taken by helicopter and satellites.

A large plume of sulfur dioxide was spotted by GOME 2 satellite on Kyushu and south of the island.
A double plume was observed thanks to webcams ... double plume, double vent.
One emits gray ash, on the other, white plume indicates a presence of water vapor, and disturbances of the hydrothermal system.

Kagoshima airport, located 32 km from the volcano, had to suspend flights because of the ashes issued; it serves about 80 flights a day.
