On the island of Manam volcano in Papua New Guinea, the situation is critical for the remaining inhabitants: more than 5,000 people have no food or drinking water since the eruption last Saturday. Cultures, coconut palms and banana trees are damaged or destroyed under the weight of ashes.
Many houses were destroyed, crumbling under the weight of ashes, reaching in places 11 cm thick.
The local government president confirms that the villages of Yassa, Madauri, Baliau, Kuluguma, Boda and Waia have been affected by the fallout of ashes, and that the village of Dangale has been flooded by a pyroclastic flow.
