Popocatépetl - 21.09.2018 / 14h13 - explosion with ash plume more than 3,000 meters above the crater - WebcamsdeMexico / Cenapred
The activity of Popocatépetl remains within the framework of the alert Amarillo fase 2, although characterized for a few days by strong explosions.
In the past 24 hours, Cenapred has accounted for 48 exhalations, accompanied by water vapor, gas, and small amounts of ash. Twelve explosions occurred, three of which watered the northeast flank of incandescent fragments.
At the seismicity level, the duration of the tremor was limited to 152 minutes and a volcano-tectonic earthquake of M1.3 was recorded.
On 21 September, an overflight of the volcano was carried out, with the support of the Federal Police; The volcano had a continuous emission of gas and water vapor making the observation difficult.

Despite these bad conditions, the internal crater could be visualized: it retains its dimensions, and the remains of the # 80 dome, set up in late August and partially destroyed by recent explosions. The temperature taken at the thermal camera is displayed at 343 ° C, which justifies explosions and exhalations.

The eruption of the Piton de La Fournaise, started September 15 at 4:25 am local time continues. The volcanic tremor (indicator of eruptive intensity on the surface), has remained relatively stable these last 24 hours despite some slight fluctuations.
The surface flows estimated from the satellite data, via the HOTVOLC platform (OPGC - Clermont Auvergne University) are between 2 m3 / s and 5 m3 / s over the last 24 hours.
The SO2 emissions recorded by the OVPF permanent sensors are much higher than the atmospheric background (related to the volcanic gas plume), and have remained stable over the past 24 hours, in line with the stability of the flows observed at the surface.
The reconnaissance done today in the field by a team from the OVPF (16h-18h local time) reports the continuation of the construction of a volcanic cone. The cone now reaches a height of 30m. on its eastern part. The eastern wall of the cone, particularly vertical, is covered with numerous scales and fissures, and threatens to collapse.
Inside this cone a regime of 3 fountains was always particularly active.

The lava flows are still continuing and are particularly well channeled. The pouring front advanced several hundred meters from the last survey on September 19, threatening an OVPF station. This station will be evacuated by an OVPF team tomorrow.
Lava samples were taken by an OVPF team about 1 km from the eruptive site, samples of which will be sent to metropolitan France for analysis.

The Turrialba has for many days maintained its passive intermittent emissions of ashes; they do not exceed 300 meters above the active crater. Ash falls are reported on La Central, Coronado and the center of Guadalupe.
