Mirova reports a small thermal anomaly (6 MW) at Sangeang Api on a small island off the northeastern coast of Sumbawa in the Lesser Sunda. Two small hot spots are visible at the top on a Sentinel 2 image of 30.01.2019.

The Sangeang Api is considered in eruption since 15 July 2017 by the GVP, and in activity level 2 / waspada by the PVMBG, together with a forbidden zone of 1.5 km around the center of activity.

In the first half of January 2019, moderate thermal anomalies were recorded, but not commented. Seismicity consists mainly of earthquakes.

The activity described in 2017 was of Strombolian type, accompanied by occasional ash plumes.

Barren Island, in the Andamman Islands, considered by the GVP in eruption from September 25 to November 12, 2018, has always been subject to thermal anomalies; they are considered as low to moderate by the Mirova site, but were the subject of a VAAC Darwin advisory on 26.01.2019, with an orange aviation code.

The activity is centered on the pyroclastic cone located in the center of the summit caldera, 2 km wide, surrounded by walls 250-350 meters high and open to the west, created during an explosive eruption at the end of Pleistocene; the cone is surrounded by lava flows that fill most of the caldera, and cover a depression that reaches the sea. This morphology is well illustrated on the image Sentinel 2 in natural colors below.
