Popocatépetl - 28.03.2019 / at 6:52, 7:00 and 7:10 am - Doc. WebcamsdeMexico / Cenapred - one click to enlarge
A press conference was held at 8:30 in the Cenapred premises which informs us:
" The process of building and destroying lava domes on the Popocatepetl volcano, which has occurred in recent years, has shown some changes in its nature in recent weeks.
Recent explosions were not preceded by the formation of lava domes and originated in the volcanic canals system, with an increase in the fragmentation of magmatic materials, causing the burning of pastures.
The National Center for Disaster Reduction (CENAPRED), jointly with the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), monitors volcanic activity. The Scientific Advisory Committee (CCA-Popocatépetl) monitors and analyzes the information in order to make recommendations to the national civil protection system (SINAPROC).
On the basis of available information, CCA-Popocatepetl recommended switching from Yellow Volcanic Alert Phase 2 to Phase 3 as a precautionary measure against the observed changes.
The yellow phase 3 alert level involves the following actions:
- Maintain evacuation routes in good conditions and with adequate signage, task to be carried out by States
- Check that temporary shelters maintain adequate conditions for their operation
- Perform exercises
- Review procedures and resources for eventual evacuation (fleet, work for persons with disabilities, among others)
- Strengthen the mechanisms of institutional communication between the three levels of government and towards the population
- Traffic control between Santiago Xalitzintla and San Pedro Nexapa, via Paso de Cortés.

The baptismal name of the two new volcanic cones, resulting from the eruption of the Piton de La Fournaise, from February 18th to March 10th, 2019, has just been attributed by the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de la Fournaise, the National Park of La Meeting and The City of the Volcano.
With the last crack openings at the end of the eruption, two beautiful cones formed around 1800 m. altitude and deserve a name.
For the one at the base of Piton Madoré (Henri Madoré: street singer Reunion) to do the counterpart, the name of Piton "Lo Rwa Kaf" (Reunion singer and storyteller, renowned interpreter of Maloya) has been selected.
For the second cone located a little further south, the crack having opened the day before the day of the woman, the name of Piton "Anne Mousse" (first woman born in Reunion, April 14, 1668, nicknamed the " real grandmother of all the Réunionnais ") was given to him.
