The drone of the visual surveillance zone of the volcanological observatory of the University of Colima flew over the volcano at 3 900 meters of altitude to capture the formation of a new crater up to 30 meters deep or more at the inside the main crater. With an approach of 50 meters, it allows to assume of its formation produced by the recent explosions of Colima, whose seismic activity had increased from the end of April.

VAAC Buenos Aires issued an ash dispersion advisory on May 28 at around 12pm for Sabancaya, concerning ashes at flight altitude 270 (8,200 meters) moving eastward.
Sabancaya is characterized by the IG Peru for the period from 20 to 26 May 2019 by explosions of low to medium intensity, at a rate of 32 per day, and eruptive columns up to 3,000 meters above the summit (culminating at 5,960 m), with dispersion over a large eastern sector.
At the seismicity level, the period was marked by 2,260 volcanic earthquakes, associated with the movements of magmatic fluids.
Thermal anomalies ranging between 5 and 45 MW, associated with the presence of a hot body near the surface and with continuous explosions are observed.
