In Ecuador, the explosive activity of Sangay continues on June 13, 2020.

Emissions of gas and ash are observed via the camera ECU911, dispersing towards the southwest; VAAC Washington issued two ash dispersion notices, including one at 2:11 p.m. UTC at a flight altitude of 230 / 7,000 meters, moving SW for 15-20 km. Ash falls affect the provinces of Chimborazo, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua and Bolivar.

During the morning, the IGEPN observed the descent of incandescent materials on the SE flank.

The observatory notes a significant accumulation of pyroclastic materials on the flanks of the volcano, likely to be remobilized in the event of rain, with mudslide and / or lahars.

The alert level remains Amarillo, with recommendation from, do not access the rios of the sector.

Since June 12, the INSIVUMEH network of seismic stations and acoustic sensors has recorded a change in the eruptive pattern of Volcán de Fuego.

In the early hours of June 13, a new lava flow was observed in the direction of the Seca barranca located on the northwest flank of the volcano, about 250 meters long. This activity is accompanied by incandescent and almost constant degassing in the crater, avalanches which travel 1 km and reach the vegetation. Weak and moderate explosions are also observed and recorded which generate rumblings, shock waves and columns of ash up to 4800 m altitude.

The current activity is similar to that recorded from May 22 to 26, 2020, but this effusive activity generates a higher degassing which generates an acoustic signal with amplitudes of 0.7 to 1.5 Pa continuously over periods up to at 4 o'clock.

Effusive activity can intensify and even extend to another ravine, presenting block avalanches; it is recommended not to stay near or in the barrancas.

A notice of possible dispersion of ash up to 20 km in a south and southwest sector has been issued to civil aeronautics.

In Costa Rica, Rincon de la Vieja, in activity level 3 / eruption (stable), presented this eruption on June 13 at 6:26 a.m., accompanied by a balnc plume which developed at 1,000 meters above the crater .

This week, the new thermal camera on the Pizzo sopra la Fossa of Stromboli was installed above the Stromboli Pit, replacing the thermal camera destroyed by the paroxysmal explosion of July 3, 2019. The operation was carried out by the staff of INGV-Etnéo Observatory, and the images are accessible by following this link.

At 8:27 p.m. on June 13, an earthquake of magnitude M3.5 occurred approximately 3.7 km north of Grindavík, on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Residents of Grindavík felt the earthquake.

It is part of a swarm of earthquakes in progress since May 30, and about 2000 earthquakes have been detected there since, mainly small earthquakes, sometimes more intense, including 3 of M between 2.5 and 2 , 9 and one of M3.5 on June 13.

Observations of the area indicate signs of re-swelling around Þorbjörn.

The phase of uncertainty declared by civil protection due to this activity is still in force
