The Sinabung experienced an eruptive episode on August 25 at 10:50 a.m. WIB. It could not be observed, friends left its mark on the seismogram with a max. of 30 mm for 249 sec.

We also note between 6 and 12h local, 3 blast earthquakes lasting 15-20 sec.

VAAC Darwin issued an aviation code orange and an ash advisory at flight altitude 110 extending west.

The activity level remains unchanged at 3 / siaga.

The Raung, in level 2 / waspada, still presents weak thermal anomalies: Mirova informs three of them of VRP between 2 and 9 MW between August 21 and August 24.

- 7 distant tectonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 2-32 mm, S-P 28-68 seconds and the duration of the earthquake 51-295 seconds.

The IGEPN reported this August 24 high activity in Sangay, characterized by ash emissions and pyroclastic flows in the south-eastern drainages.

In the morning, gas emissions were observed ranging from 1000 to 2000 m. above the crater level and the direction was west-southwest.

The Washington VAAC recorded 5 ash emission alerts, varying in direction from west to southwest and south, these emissions reached heights of 2,100 meters above crater level.

Other monitoring parameters: There was no change

Ash falls could affect the provinces of Chimborazo and Cañar.

In terms of seismicity, the observatory reports, between 23 and 24 August / 11 a.m., 27 LP earthquakes, 112 emission tremor episodes and one harmonic tremor.

The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) reports that the eruptive activity of the Sabancaya volcano remained at moderate levels, between August 17 and 23, 2020, with the continuous recording of an average of 13 daily explosions, which generate columns of gas and ash that rise up to 2.2 km above the summit of the volcano.

The IGP recorded and analyzed the occurrence of 860 earthquakes of volcanic origin, associated with the circulation of magmatic fluids inside the Sabancaya volcano. During this period, Volcano-Tectonic (VT) earthquakes presented magnitudes less than M3.9 and were located between 12 and 15 km in the northern sector of the Sabancaya volcano, near the towns of Pinchollo, Maca and Madrigal . The largest earthquake (M3.9), reported by the National Seismic Center (CENSIS), occurred on August 16 at 3:59 a.m., at a depth of 10 km.

Monitoring the deformation of the volcanic structure, using GNSS data (processed with fast orbits), recorded a slight inflation of the south-eastern flank of Sabancaya and the northern sector (Hualca Hualca volcano). A deformation was detected with the synthetic aperture radar differential interferometry (INSAR) technique 3 km northwest of the Hualca Hualca volcano, which would be associated with the process of reactivation of local faults that occurred between August 14 and August 18. .

Satellite surveillance has identified the presence of 2 thermal anomalies, with values ​​of 2 MW, associated with the presence of the lava dome on the surface of the volcano's crater.

 

The volcanic alert level remains orange, with a prohibited area of ​​12 km in radius around the crater
