Since 02:28 local time, a new seismic crisis has been recorded on the instruments of the Volcanological Observatory of Piton de la Fournaise. This seismic crisis is accompanied by rapid deformation.
This indicates that the magma is leaving the magma reservoir and is spreading towards the surface. An eruption is likely shortly within the next few minutes or hours.
The volcanic tremor synonymous with the arrival of magma near the surface has been recorded since approximately 4:40 a.m. local time.
Analysis of the data and observations from our cameras show that the eruptive fissure (s) have opened on the western flank of the volcano and that the first lava poured out around 04.55-05.00 local time.
Given the presence of hot and incandescent gases, and the emission of lava in progress, the Prefect decided to implement the alert phase 2-2 "eruption in progress in the enclosure" of the specific device ORSEC volcano this Monday December 7 at 5:30 am.
Public access to the Fouqué enclosure, from the Pas de Bellecombe trail or from any other trail, as well as landing aircraft in the volcano area, are prohibited until further notice.

Following an overflight of the eruptive site carried out with the assistance of the SAG and the PGHM, the cracks could be located with precision. Three cracks opened on the west southwest flank of the volcano, at an altitude of between 2300 and 2190 m and over a total distance of about 700 m.
During the overflight, between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. local time, the three cracks were active, projecting lava fountains of about fifteen meters in height, accompanied by a significant degassing above the enclosure and much further towards the interior of the island. The flow front was spreading very slowly and was located at an altitude of about 2120 meters.

At Semeru, volcanic material deposited in the Kobokan drainage for 6 days is still very hot, and on December 6, there was heavy rains, causing a lahar around 3:30 p.m. WIB over 750 meters.
The BPBD has issued an alert for the community around the village of Sumberwuluh. Indeed, the embankment of the hamlet of Kebondeli has been eroded by previous lahars. If the 10 to 15 meter embankment is completely broken, it will endanger the safety of the inhabitants of the residential areas it protects.
Thanks to the seismographic records of December 6, 2020, it was recorded:
- 6 eruption earthquakes, amplitude of 10-18 mm lasting 50-70 sec.
- 26 collapse / avalanche earthquakes
- 3 blast / emission earthquakes
- 8 episode of harmonic tremor.
- 1 deep volcanic earthquake
- 3 distant tectonic earthquakes
- 1 earthquake associated with the hot lahar, with an amplitude of 5 mm, lasting 1200 sec.

The explosive-effusive eruptive activity continues at Klyuchevskoy in recent days. KVERT reports a gas / vapor / and ash plume on December 6 at 6,000 meters asl, drifting northeast for 60 km.
The measurement of thermal anomalies are disturbed by clouds.
