On the morning of May 14, work began to erect a lava barrier. The construction of defense structures above Nátthaga is carried out in collaboration with the police chief of Suðurnes, the civil defense of Grindavík and the city of Grindavík.
While it is possible to guarantee that the continuation of the lava flow towards Merardalur, no infrastructure is endangered in the near future. Merardalir can receive a considerable amount of lava and if it fills up another uninhabited area without significant infrastructure will take over from the lava.
The work should last 3 to 4 days, carried out with the materials on site and would be reversible after eruption.

Insivumeh reports a white degassing plume at the Mackenney crater of Pacaya, and an ash column at 3,100 m. asl. this Friday May 14.
The crack that feeds the lava flow on the northwest flank degasses and presents some explosions with incandescent projections at a height of 40 m. The flow progresses and we observe the accumulation of incandescent material around las Cachajinas. Tremor is still recorded.
During the morning, explosions were reported and it is likely that in neighboring communities ash fall occurs.

In Chile, the Sernageomin recorded at the Laguna del Maule Volcanic Complex a seismic swarm, composed of 156 VT / volcano-tectonic earthquakes, associated with the fragmentation of rocks. They are located 7 km SSO from the center of the laguna; the major earthquake has its hypocenter at 6.300 m. depth for a magnitude of 1.8 (ML).
No superficial change is observed thanks to webcams.
The volcanic alert remains in Amarilla.
