Given the strong activity of the Semeru volcano and the increasing distance of pyroclastic avalanche flows and lava flows, the activity level of the Semeru volcano changes from WASPADA (level II) to SIAGA (level III), from from December 16, 2021 at 11:00 p.m. WIB.

Observations sismiques du 16 décembre :

- 3 séismes d'éruption, avec une amplitude de 11 à 25 mm et une durée de séisme de 70 à 125 secondes.
- 3 séismes de coulées pyroclastiques d'avalanche, avec une amplitude de 17-25 mm et une durée du séisme de 395-912 secondes.
- 21 séismes d'avalanche avec une amplitude de 1 à 22 mm et une durée de tremblement de terre de 25 à 265 secondes.
- 7 rafales de tremblements de terre d'une amplitude de 3 à 7 mm et d'une durée de 30 à 180 secondes.
- 4 séismes tectoniques locaux; 1 tremblement de terre ressenti, échelle II MMI avec une amplitude de 23 mm, S-P n'a pas été observé et la durée du tremblement de terre était de 345 secondes.
- 7 séismes tectoniques lointains
- 2 séismes Flood Vibration avec une amplitude de 8 à 15 mm et une durée de 600 à 1440 secondes.

The monitoring stations installed near the Planchon - Peteroa Volcanic Complex recorded an earthquake associated with the fracturing of the rock (Volcano - Tectonic earthquake) this Thursday 16 at 5:20 pm. Keep the alert green.

The eruptive process of Cumbre Vieja, according to PEVOLCA, continues to show signs of exhaustion and the visible emission of volcanic gases is punctual and sporadic and is concentrated in the eruptive centers and jameos of the volcanic tubes. No variation from the level of tremor, seismicity and gas emission associated with the volcanic plume, which are at low levels.

A total of 56 earthquakes were located on the island of La Palma, including one felt by the population.
The maximum recorded magnitude is 3.4 (mbLg), corresponding to yesterday's earthquake at 15:09 UTC, at a depth of 14 km. The minimum magnitude of the localized earthquake was 1.2 mbLg.
Localized seismicity continues under the central area of ​​Cumbre Vieja in the same areas of the last days, with dispersion. Most earthquakes (39) are located at depths between 8 and 17 km. Eleven earthquakes were also located at depths between 33 and 40 km and 6 at depths between 0 and 5 km.
Apart from this localized volcano-tectonic activity, and coinciding with the disappearance of the volcanic tremor, low frequency signals interpreted as LP events were detected in the seismic stations.

The amplitude of the tremor signal over the past 24 hours has remained at very low levels, close to the pre-eruptive period.

The island's network of permanent GNSS stations does not show a clear trend in the deformation of the stations closest to the eruptive centers.
In the rest of the stations, the slight deflation observed previously stabilized.

In view of the image calibrated at 08:45 UTC, no type of emission is visible.
The height of the cone is measured by obtaining a value of 1122 m. asl.

 

In Los Llanos de Aridane, the recommendations to the population are maintained due to the high concentration of particles and, due to the toxic gases, the need to strengthen protective measures when accessing evacuated areas is recalled. Weather forecasts indicate a prevalence of breezes and the presence of haze that may increase PM10 values ​​due to the input of desert dust.
