On the morning of February 3, the Insivumeh recorded pyroclastic flows at Santiaguito. They qualified as moderate, of the "boulders and ashes" type, and affected the western and southwestern flanks, generating ash clouds at 600-800 meters in height.
Ash falls are reported on San Martin Sacatepéquez, Llanos del Pinal, and Xecaraco (Quetzaltenango) and Loma Linda (el Palmar).
Santiaguito - seismogram and pyroclastic flow of collapse of 03.02.2022 / 09:45 local time - Doc. Insivumeh
From the morning of January 30 until the morning of February 3 at 9:45 local time, 20 pyroclastic flows were recorded, moving over distances between 1,000 and 3,000 meters. A permanent and sustained degassing is observed above the crater of the Caliente dome.
Forecasts are for more moderate to strong pyroclastic flows to follow over the next few days or weeks, generating more ash moving with the winds.
A ban on access is established in an area of 5 km around the dome of Santiaguito.
