Reventador - Copete Camera. Emission of gas & ashes- 08/04/2022 / 07:22 TL. - one click to enlarge

The IGEPN reports that the activity of the Reventador remains high, unchanged between April 7 and 8 / 11 a.m., with 50 explosion earthquakes, 29 LP earthquakes and 20 episodes of tremor.

Yesterday afternoon and during the night, the volcano was partially cleared and emissions of gas, steam and ash could be observed with a maximum height of 1,000 meters above the level of the crater towards the west. .

The Washington VAAC issued 3 reports of ash emission to the west and northwest 988 meters above the summit.

The MIROVA system records 1 low thermal alert at Reventador in the last 24 hours.

The MOUNTS system has not recorded any measurements in the last 24 hours. when the volcano is cloudy.

São Jorge - seismicity down on 07.04.2022, but alert 4 maintained - Doc. ERCC - one click to enlarge

The Azores Seismovolcanic Information and Monitoring Center (CIVISA) informs that the seismovolcanic crisis that has been occurring on the island of São Jorge since 4:05 p.m. (local time = UTC-1) on March 19 is still ongoing, extending , roughly speaking, along a strip in WNW-ESE direction, from Ponta dos Rosais to the Norte Pequeno – Silveira area.

The most energetic earthquake of this crisis occurred on March 29, at 21:56 (local time = UTC), had an epicenter about 2 km SSW of Velas and a magnitude of 3.8 (Richter). So far, about 237 earthquakes felt by the population (out of more than 26,000 earthquakes in the current swarm) have been recorded.

The level 4 alert (last level before the eruption stage) remains relevant despite a decrease in recent days.

The integration of the available information allows us to conclude that the tectonic structures where the historical eruptions of 1580 and 1808 developed, and the seismovolcanic crisis of 1964, in the Fissural Volcanic System of Manadas, have been reactivated, and it is possible to admit the occurrence of a deep magmatic intrusion.

CIVISA warns of the possibility of earthquakes that can reach magnitudes greater than those recorded so far, as well as the danger of landslides potentiated by seismic activity. There is a real possibility that a volcanic eruption will occur, but there is no evidence that it is imminent.

As a result, CIVISA has been on ALERT V4 (last level before eruption) since 3:30 p.m. on March 23.
CIVISA has also issued an alert to the Santa Maria Air Control Center (ACC Santa Maria), the Toulouse Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) and the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) .

Strong northwesterly winds in the vicinity of Katmai and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes picked up loose volcanic ash that erupted during the Novarupta-Katmai eruption in 1912 and carried it southeastward in direction of Kodiak Island tonight April 8, 2022. The National Weather Service has issued a SIGMET for this low level event and suggests the maximum cloud height is 8,000 feet above sea level. sea.

This phenomenon is not the result of recent volcanic activity and occurs during periods of high winds and dry snowless conditions in the Katmai region and other young volcanic regions of Alaska. No eruption is in progress. All volcanoes in the Katmai region (Snowy, Griggs, Katmai, Novarupta, Trident, Mageik, Martin) remain color coded GREEN.

Resuspended volcanic ash should be considered hazardous and could be harmful to aircraft and health.

Current volcano alert level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

On the second day of the Vulcano2022 exercise, the activity of INGV researchers continues on the island, aimed at fully understanding the geo-structural state of the active cone of La Fossa and the Caldera in the center of which this building developed.
