According to the OVPF, the eruption that started today around 7:48 a.m. local time at Piton de La Fournaise continues. After a phase of increase at the start of the eruption, the intensity of the volcanic tremor (indicator of an emission of lava on the surface) has been gradually decreasing since around 8:00 a.m. This drop in tremor at the start of the eruption is usually observed at the start of each eruption at Piton de la Fournaise.

The tremor location map made it possible to quickly locate the eruptive site at the south-southwest base of the terminal cone, in the Rivals crater sector. This location was confirmed by the PGHM teams on site to evacuate the Enclosure, with the observation of lava fountain activity (20-30 m high) located east of Piton Kala Pélé. Seismic activity is still present under the summit: 72 volcano-tectonic earthquakes have been recorded since the start of the eruption. The majority of these earthquakes are located under the southern rim of the Dolomieu crater.

Whakaari / White Island web camera images showed that a minor ash emission from an active vent behind the lake occurred in the crater on Sunday September 18, 2022. The ash was light brown in color and rose about 600 m above the volcano.
Ash was not seen beyond the island, but the overall steam plume could be seen from the Bay of Plenty coast. A strong signal of SO2 gas associated with this plume was also detected by satellite on Sunday. No significant ash was observed today and the Volcanic Alert Level remains at 2. The Aviation Color Code is upgraded to orange, reflecting the potential for minor ash emissions.
The Sernageomin monitoring stations, installed near the Laguna del Maule Volcanic Complex, recorded today, Monday September 19 at 08:29 a.m., a seismic swarm of 120 events associated with rock fracturing (Volcano-Tectonic) at 8.4 km west southwest of the center of the lagoon, and a depth of 5.1 km.
The technical alert remains green.
Tajogaite one year after the start of the eruption on 19.09.2021 at 3:11 p.m.
Some data on the situation by the SER:
More than 300 hectares of crops are buried under the lava, more than 2,000 houses destroyed and some 3,000 unusable beds. Two towns evacuated because of toxic gases. More than 560 million€ in public aid, 170 people in hotels.
A few tracks are beginning to replace the asphalt axes washed away by the lava, and the vegetation is slowly regaining its rights.

The President of the Canary Islands, Angel Víctor Torres, the Minister for the Presidency, Felix Bolaños, and the President of the Cabildo de La Palma, Mariano Hernández Zapata, announced today after the meeting of the Joint Commission for the Reconstruction of La Palma , a specific housing plan for the inhabitants of La Bombilla and Puerto Naos, expelled since the beginning of the eruption due to the presence of toxic gases.
An extraordinary housing plan that will be coordinated by the central government in collaboration with the Canary Islands, and which will allow these people to receive modular or alternative homes so that they no longer have to wait for the end of the aforementioned toxic gases.
