After remaining at a high level of activity during the past week, Fuego volcano / produced on June 4 two lava flows, long of 400 to 700 meters.
On June 5, at 4:25 local, Fuego was rocked by an explosion accompanied by a rising ash plume 5,000 meters asl, before moving to a large south and west sector. Civil aviation is warned of possible risks associated with ashes.
An effusive eruption began, and powered two lava flows: the first towards the barranca Trinidad, south, 1,300 meters long, the second to the north-west and the barranca Santa Teresa, 600 m long (05.06 / locale 9:10).
Note that a lahar accompanied by a strong smell of sulfur was recorded on 4.06 in the barranca Trinidad (Conred / Armando Vásquez.)
The activity is accompanied by a locomotive like noise, audible over 7 km.
The alert level is kept at Amarillo, and classified as moderate, but the situation can change with probability of pyroclastic flows in the ravines.
